Artist Spotlight: skyve

The new single “eternal time,” by Texas songwriter Skyve, begins quickly with upbeat drums that never let up. But the lightness conceals a melancholy sadness, unmistakable in twisting melodies of an electric guitar.

In this exclusive Q&A, skyve opens up about the stories behind the music, lessons learned along the way, and what keeps their passion alive.

Outverge: How did you get started in the music industry?

skyve: Music is something that I've been into my whole life, and over time, I eventually built up the courage to release my first song on YouTube, which was about 5 years ago

Outverge: What challenges did you face early in your career, and how did you overcome them?

skyve: Just being confident in my music and my will to share it with others. That's something I'm still working on to this day - being proud of my own work.

Outverge: Who was your first major musical mentor, and what did you learn from them?

skyve: His name is TryBishop - we did a month-long session of just cranking out demos and getting me comfortable with my DAW. It was super necessary in my journey to get me where I am today.

Outverge: What’s the story behind your favorite song you’ve written?

skyve: It's a piece I have yet to release, but it's just me venting and singing about the idea of feeling hidden and not being able to be your true self in front of others.

Outverge: Have there been any pivotal moments or turning points in your career?

skyve: I've had a couple of very minor low moments and writer's blocks, but it's honestly been pretty smooth sailing for me. I just need to remind myself about why I'm doing this sometimes.

Outverge: Are there any causes or charities you’re passionate about?

skyve: I don't know any names specifically, but I love the idea of schools (before college) that can teach you exactly what you want to learn and focus on in life.

Outverge: What’s something about you that fans might be surprised to learn?

skyve: I've been self-taught at home since 4th grade. Maybe that's why I've had so much time to discover what I love to do and chase it.

Outverge: What legacy do you hope to leave with your music?

skyve: My legacy is an interesting concept to me, and it's something I haven't really figured out yet. I'm trying to live more in the present, and right now, all I want is people to enjoy my music, and for me to feel like I gave it my all

Outverge: What’s the most significant change you’ve seen in yourself since starting your music career?

skyve: Switching over from just rapping to producing almost everything and singing on my tracks.

Outverge: What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?

skyve: Finishing an album that I just got done with that has some really cool people on it. It will be coming out sometime this fall, so be ready.
