Boy George has revealed that artificial intelligence was involved in creating his new reggae track supporting Israel, ‘We Will Dance Again’.
The Culture Club singer uploaded the song to social media during the weekend, pairing it with the Hebrew title ‘עוד נרקוד’ and a brief caption that read: “Shalom.”
The track begins with the lyric “You say genocide, I say war”, disputing claims that Israel’s military operations in Gaza amount to genocide. Instead, it frames the campaign as a reaction to the Hamas led assault on the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, which killed 344 civilians and 34 security personnel and resulted in 44 hostages being taken.
Boy George also targets artists who have openly expressed solidarity with Palestine. “You condemn the Jews, with selective memory / Musicians holding flags, mouthing like sheep / Propaganda fuelled by the Internet feels so weak,” he sings.
‘We Will Dance Again’ became a message of strength among Israelis following the events of October 7. The same phrase provided the title for a 2024 documentary examining the attack at the Nova festival.
A United Nations Commission determined last year that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Last month, it said that genocidal actions were continuing through assaults directed at children. Amnesty International has reached the same conclusion regarding Israel’s conduct in Gaza.
Israel has repeatedly rejected accusations of genocide and war crimes, insisting that its military response is an act of self defence after October 7. It also dismissed the UN conclusions as “distorted and false” and a “libellous sham”.
Discussing the release on Threads, Boy George wrote: “I prefer an imperfect democracy. It’s what I’m used to but my support is more for my actual friends who I hold close and know are good and decent. I’m afraid we all struggle to live peacefully with each other. Until we do, we are doomed. I accept that many people disagree with my point of view but that is what is great about democracy.”
He continued: “As imperfect as it is! The song was created using AI. I call it ‘AI for good’. Truthfully, I would struggle to write this with a human!”
The release follows comments from Boy George earlier this year in which he explained that using AI to develop new material had transformed his songwriting process.
The track has received backlash from several figures, including Martyn Ware, the founder of The Human League and Heaven 17. He described it as an “overtly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda…” and added: “George, you should be ashamed.”
Journalist Mahdi Hemmat also condemned the song, writing: “Neighborhoods have been flattened. Hospitals and ambulances have been hit. The civilian death toll keeps climbing. Calling it simply “war” ignores the scale of what’s happening.”
Boy George has publicly expressed support for Jewish communities numerous times in recent years. In May, he delivered a message of solidarity at a London march opposing antisemitism.
“I don’t want to be thanked for doing what is right,” he said at the time. “I have so many beautiful Jewish friends, and I know some of you will be there today. But even if I don’t know you, I send you my love.”
He made those remarks before participating in Eurovision 2026, where he joined Senhit to represent San Marino. The duo did not advance to the final.
In 2024, Boy George signed an open letter calling for Israel to remain part of Eurovision alongside Sharon Osbourne, Gene Simmons, and Scooter Braun.
