Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have secured a place in British music history after their successful collaboration, Rein Me In, became the longest reigning Official Number 1 single ever recorded on the UK chart. The song has now spent 19 separate weeks at the top, overtaking the 73 year benchmark established by Frankie Laine’s I Believe in 1953.
Issued through Polydor Label Group, Rein Me In made its chart debut in June 2025 and eventually reached Number 1 in February 2026. Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, and Ariana Grande briefly replaced it at the summit, but the track continued returning to first place throughout its eight month chart run.
In recognition of the landmark accomplishment, the Official Charts Company awarded Sam Fender the Official Chart Record Breaker Award. "Completely lost for words, thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is," Sam Fender told Official Charts. "Can’t believe we broke the UK record!"
With this success, Fender and Dean have moved ahead of earlier British chart records achieved by Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around and Bryan Adams’ (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, which each remained at Number 1 for 16 weeks.
"Congratulations to Sam Fender and Olivia Dean on an extraordinary, history-making achievement," said Becca Monahan and Chris Austin, interim Co Managing Directors of Official Charts. "For Rein Me In to break a record that has stood for 73 years is remarkable in itself, but it feels especially significant to see two homegrown British artists write a new chapter in Official Chart history together."
Dr Jo Twist OBE, BPI Chief Executive, also shared: "The British public have taken the song to their hearts, and we should all be proud and celebrate this special moment in our music heritage."
Elsewhere in the rankings, Shakira and Burna Boy remain at Number 2 with the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 single Dai Dai, as Ella Langley rises to Number 3 with Choosin’ Texas. French producer HUGEL reaches the Top 10 with Movin’ To The Sun, while K pop group KATSEYE earns this week’s biggest new arrival as Animal debuts at Number 16.
