Charli XCX has “begrudgingly” released a three track B sides version of her latest album Music, Fashion, Film through iTunes.
The 33 year old singer previously told listeners that I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night, Playboy Bunny and If You Take the Music Then What Has She Got? were “never gonna go on streaming”.
Announcing their arrival as part of an expanded digital edition of Music, Fashion, Film on Instagram, Charli wrote: “You can call me a hypocrite, I don’t mind.”
She explained that she created B sides for Rock Music, SS26 and Camera to accompany the limited edition 7” singles and the Music, Fashion, Film physical box set because “it felt natural to pair each songs with a fitting counterpart – something that’s adjacent to the album but not entirely part of it”.
Charli continued: “Traditionally, b sides often become fan favourites… and i guess in the case of some of the b sides for this album, that has proven to be true.
“I felt adamant I wouldn’t put them on streaming because it sort of felt counter intuitive to the whole ethos of those songs, but I know you all really wanted them so i’ve begrudgingly put them on iTunes lol.”
She finished her message by saying: “Love you all and i hope you enjoy these special songs in your ears.”
Fans quickly celebrated the surprise release, with one person commenting: “Thank you generous queen!”
Another listener responded: “Thank you so much for this. Honestly, as someone who who cannot afford the whole box set right now, this makes me very happy”
A third fan joked: “Wait putting the b-sides on iTunes is so funny but kinda chic?”
Despite the excitement, many people also urged Charli to make the tracks available through Spotify rather than limiting the release to iTunes.
One commenter asked: "Who uses itunes ???? Put them on spotify girl!"
Someone else wrote: "Girl don’t play with me, put them on Spotify!"
Another fan added: "What about people that use Spotify?? Luckily I stream on Apple Music but I feel sad for Spotify users."
