Snow Patrol have teamed up with Kylie Minogue for their mesmerizing new single “These Alarms” and have also revealed the stage times for their upcoming headline show at London’s Crystal Palace Park later this week.
The emotional new collaboration marks the first time the indie rock band and the pop superstar have recorded together. The song was originally completed in 2024 without Minogue’s vocals before the band decided to pause its release until they could make the duet a reality.
Driven by shimmering synths and atmospheric melodies, “These Alarms” opens with Gary Lightbody and Kylie Minogue singing together. “It’s all at once/ And everything in between/ It’s not what we want/ But it’s just something that/ We need in our lives right now,” they sing before the track builds into a soaring, emotional chorus.
Lightbody first wrote the song two years ago under the working title “Kylie.” It had originally been intended for Snow Patrol’s chart topping album “The Forest Is The Path,” but the band chose to hold it back while pursuing a collaboration with the Australian icon.
“As a huge Kylie fan I originally wrote ‘These Alarms’ with her in mind. I played it to Johnny [McDaid] and Nathan [Connolly] and they loved it,” Lightbody explained. “But when we finished the song we quickly realised something huge was missing from it. We all knew it was Kylie’s voice that was the missing piece.”
After sending the demo to Minogue and hoping she would be interested, the band eventually received the response they had been waiting for, with the “Padam Padam” singer agreeing to join the project.
“Kylie recorded her wonderful voice on it and finally the song felt complete,” Lightbody continued. “From the minute she recorded her vocals we knew, to properly honour Kylie and the song, it needed to have a life on its own and not be buried somewhere on an album, but live in its own universe.
“The song had its own very unique genesis, journey and destination. We could not be more delighted to be releasing a song with Kylie, the queen of pop herself, out into the world.”
Minogue also spoke about what drew her to the collaboration and admitted she was intrigued as soon as she learned about the band's original demo.
“The story behind this song was irresistible… Hearing there was a demo called ‘Kylie’ that had been living in the Snow Patrol archives was a complete surprise and, naturally, I was curious to hear it,” she shared.
“Gary is such a brilliant songwriter, so to be invited into the band’s world is a total honour.”
Fans can listen to the new single now, while a limited edition seven inch vinyl release is available to pre order ahead of its August 21 shipping date.
