Tim McGraw became emotional as he was officially welcomed into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The 59 year old singer and actor, who shares three daughters, Gracie, 29, Maggie, 28, and Audrey, 24, with his wife and fellow country music star Faith Hill, 59, struggled to hold back tears as he addressed the country music community.
Speaking at the annual Medallion Ceremony at Nashville’s CMA Theater on Sunday (18.10.26), he admitted: “I’m going to cry because I cry all the time.
“There’s a lot of oestrogen in my house.”
Tim said the only occasion that could surpass the honour would be seeing Faith receive the same recognition herself.
He explained: “The only thing that could top this night is when you’re standing up here and I’m sitting over there.”
Turning his attention to their three daughters, he shared an emotional tribute, saying: “You’re the greatest thing we’ve ever created.
“Nothing we’ve accomplished in our careers comes anywhere close.”
The country star also opened up about his childhood and the discovery of his biological father’s identity when he was just 11 years old.
He recalled: “I grew up in Start, Louisiana. It was a pretty small place.
“For years, I wondered about my background and where I really came from. As it turned out, I had two fathers.
“The man who raised me was my stepfather, Horace Smith. He certainly wouldn’t have received any awards for the way he treated my mother or us children.
“That house was like a furnace, but it’s that kind of heat that turns iron into steel.
“When I was 11, I came across my birth certificate and saw a name I already recognised from baseball.
“In fact, I had his baseball card hanging on my wall. McGraw.
“We met once that year, but I didn’t see him again until I was 19.”
Tim was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame alongside songwriter Paul Overstreet, 71, and the Stanley Brothers.
The ceremony concluded with the traditional group performance of Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
