This Q&A gives fans a rare glimpse into the mind of one of music’s most respected voices
Outverge: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Jon Mads Blue: My biggest influences were definitely The Beatles, all the way. They had so many great songs, diverse styles, and incredible harmonies.
Outverge: When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?
Jon Mads Blue: I wanted to be a musician at about age 14. I don't recall the exact year, but it was early on.
Outverge: How did you get started in the music industry?
Jon Mads Blue: I played in bands when I was in my late teens and early 20s, then got a "real job" ?. I revisited music again about two and a half years ago and have been writing songs ever since.
Outverge: What’s the story behind your favorite song you’ve written?
Jon Mads Blue: I do not have a favorite song; I like some more than others, but no favorites. However, a few tracks off my first release are favorites of people close to me.
Outverge: What’s something about you that fans might be surprised to learn?
Jon Mads Blue: A fan might be surprised that I don't listen to the radio, only albums. I also don't listen to my own songs much!
Outverge: What legacy do you hope to leave with your music?
Jon Mads Blue: I would like for everyone who listens to my songs to remember the good vibe and go away humming a bit and remembering.
Outverge: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Jon Mads Blue: I enjoy going to flea markets and finding "one-off" pieces that strike me as unusual or unique—like art deco pieces off old buildings, brass statues, or cool yard art. I love finding artsy items I can display in my cases.
Outverge: What drives you to keep creating music even during challenging times?
Jon Mads Blue: I haven't really been that challenged when writing and recording. I’ve been fortunate to hook up with some great studio musicians, and I’m interested to see how AI will impact things since it's just around the corner!
Outverge: Which track feels the most personal to you, and why?
Jon Mads Blue: My next single is called "Sidewalk Boredom." It’s a good one!
Outverge: How do you protect your creativity from the noise of everyday life?
Jon Mads Blue: If I get inspiration in the middle of the night, I find my way to my phone and record it. Inspiration often comes to me while I'm driving, too; I guess I’m just able to tune out all the noise. :)
