Kodak Black‘s longtime lawyer feels that a mistrial should be declared in the ongoing RICO case amid the recent drama involving Young Thug‘s attorney.

As previously reported, the “Bubbly” hitmaker’s attorney Brian Steel was taken into custody and held in contempt during court proceedings earlier this week. This was because he refused to give up his source after confronting the judge for allegedly meeting with a witness in private without proper counsel present, for which he was ordered to spend the next 10 weekends at the Fulton County Jail.

Reacting to the news on Monday (June 10), Bradford Cohen shared his thoughts on the matter via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“This case and judge is off the reservation,” he said. “This is an instant mistrial. I cannot believe the Judge thinks taking a defense atty into custody isn’t a mistrial. BRIAN STEELE is a real one. Defense lawyers across the country should be terrified by the lack of judicial knowledge.”

Many public figures have been vocal about the ongoing trial since it began earlier this year, as there have been many missteps along the way.

Even before things kicked off, Meek Mill spoke out about the “messy” process during the discovery phase, when the judge called out the prosecution for holding evidence.

“Jeff gone beat this case it’s too messy!” the Philly native wrote in November.

Chance The Rapper also spoke out and called for Young Thug to be released from jail, slammed the criminal trial as a “circus.”

The Chicago rapper celebrated his 31st birthday in April, but his only wish was “freedom” for Thugger, who he described as his “brother.” Taking to Instagram, the Acid Rap hitmaker called out the legal blunders in the lengthy court proceedings and claimed Thug should be allowed to fight the case from the comfort of his own home instead of jail.

“For my birthday I just wish my brother was home with his family,” he wrote alongside an old video of him and the Atlanta native chatting at what appeared to be a festival. “This circus of a trial has had him in custody for over a year and with all the legal errors, jury misconduct and conflicts of interest by the state he deserves to at the very least fight this from home.”

Young Thug was one of 28 people arrested in May 2022 in the RICO case against his YSL collective, which prosecutors allege is a criminal street gang. Thug, who faces eight charges, has been denied bond several times and has remained in Cobb County Jail ever since.
