The Streets have released a new single, ‘End Of The Queue’, as part of their ‘Fabric Presents…’ mix. Check it out below.
‘End Of The Queue’ follows ‘No Better Than Chance’, released last month, in being released from the upcoming mix. The Mike Skinner-fronted project created the 31-track mix for Fabric as part of the famous London club’s 25th-anniversary celebrations.
It sees Skinner in a thoughtful, introspective mood, as he takes a look at life in London and the trials and tribulations that it entails. “Never wanna do it but I guess we should be through / I’m at the end of the queue for a bed with you,” he says before a chorus of, “Hold me in the night as the darkness fades.”
Skinner has followed the likes of Shygirl and Overmono in curating a release for Fabric, and his mix runs the gamut from UK rap and grime to garage and bass.
“I’ve spent many nights wasted but not wasted any nights in Fabric over the years,” Skinner said in a statement last month.
“The dedication to underground music and innovation, the way the bodysonic bass transducers sent the sounds through your body via your feet, the queues, the camaraderie and a real sense of being part of something that people will remember through the haze as the home of some of the greatest moments of their lives.”
Skinner added: “When I was asked to do a mix for the anniversary series I couldn’t wait to get on with it. Fabric has become one of the homes of bass music and that’s some of the music I’ve been playing out the most.”
The album will be available in the iconic Fabric CD tins, and includes both ‘End Of The Queue’, which closes the collection, and ‘No Better Than Chance’. Also included are ‘Desert Island Duvet (Skinner’s Version)’ with Fred Again.. and Dermot Kennedy, ‘Cannot Be A Lie’, and ‘Boxing In Slow Motion’.
Under Skinner’s own name are three more tracks, ‘Sharp Knives Are Safer’, ‘Hands Down’, and ‘Neine To 5’.
The Streets released their latest studio album, ‘The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light’, last October, also releasing a film of the same name. And this summer, they’ve got a few festival appearances lined up, including Glastonbury. You can find The Streets tickets here.
